Community Guidelines
Welcome to Discuss - Always Free Tools — a community for finding (and building) free alternatives to the paid tools we rely on every day.
Our Mission
Help each other spend less and ship more by:
- Sharing the paid tools we pay for, and what we’d actually need from a free alternative
- Building those alternatives — sometimes solo, sometimes with the community
- Surfacing the best community-built tools to alwaysfreetools.com, with full credit to the maker
What’s Welcome
- Genuine “Find me a free alternative” requests — be specific about your scenario
- Show & Tell of tools you’ve built or discovered, open-source or not, as long as the page works without payment
- Ideas, observations, market gaps — the kind of thing you’d jot down on a napkin
- Polite disagreement and constructive critique
- English or Chinese — the translator plugin bridges the gap
What’s Not Welcome
- Affiliate links, referral codes, or hidden incentives (zero tolerance)
- Self-promotion of unrelated products without contribution
- LLM-generated filler posts and karma farming
- Drive-by negativity (e.g. “X sucks”) without alternative or argument
- Piracy, credential trading, account sharing, or any illegal content
- Cross-posting the same request to multiple categories
Posting Quality
- Use the topic template in each category — it’s there to help both you and readers
- Tag your post with the correct Tool Type — that’s how others discover it
- One specific request per topic — don’t bundle three paid tools into one thread
- Asking for help? Include what you tried, what failed, and your environment
- Sharing a build? Include a live demo, source if public, and the tech stack
How We Moderate
- We assume good faith first and warn before banning
- Edits are visible in post history; nothing is silently changed
- Bans are appealable via the Meta category
- Our principle: prefer to remove the post, not the person
Connection to alwaysfreetools.com
- Outstanding community tools may be featured on the main site, with full credit
- Featuring requires your consent — say so in your Show & Tell post
- We never claim ownership of your work; we curate and link out
Reporting
Use the
Flag option on any post to alert moderators. For severe issues (harassment, illegal content, doxxing), DM @aft directly.
